Whiskey Braised Cherries with a Chocolate and Cherry Cream

Time: 25 minutes
1 package frozen puff pastry cups, at room temperature
1 ½ cups fresh cherries, pitted and sliced in half
1 cup Jack Daniel’s Whiskey
2/3 cup Dr. Pepper
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
½ cup dried cherries, chopped
1/3 cup chocolate morsels, chopped
1. Place puff pastry cups on a non-stick sheet tray and place in a preheated 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes (or until golden and fluffy)
2. In a large saucepot over medium-high heat, add the cherries, whiskey, Dr. Pepper, and cinnamon, and bring to a simmer. Allow the liquid to reduce until the bubbles get nice and big. The liquid will have the consistency of maple syrup.
3. In a large mixing bowl, whip the cream to firm peaks (about 3-4 minutes by hand) add the powdered sugar, chopped cherries and chocolate bits and mix evenly.
4. Once the Puff Pastry cups are golden, remove the tops to create the cup and fill it with the whiskey-braised cherries. Be sure to drizzle some of the sauce around the plate for presentation. Add a bit of the Chocolate Cherry cream over the top and serve.
